Cape Winelands

Explore the Cape Winelands’ principal route through Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschoek.

In the heart of the Cape Winelands, the town of Paarl is situated at the base of an impressive granite double domed mountain named Paarl Berg. Surrounding the mountain are some of South Africa’s best wineries and we will take you to visit two, which produce, in addition to fine wine, goats cheese, olive oil, artisan chocolate, craft beer and offer interesting tasting tours of all. A glass blowing workshop and art gallery are also located here.

Stellenbosch, a leisurely 15-minute drive away and the nearest town to Hawksmoor House, is a place of great beauty and historical interest. The second-oldest town in South Africa, it is also one of the best preserved, with a mix of architectural styles, including Cape Dutch, Georgian, Regency and Victorian. Home to one of South Africas oldest universities, Stellenbosch is the Cape Winelands ́ most interesting and lively town with numerous restaurants, bars, shops and galleries.

A drive to Franschhoek, 30 minutes away, takes you over the historic Helshoogte (Hell’s Heights) pass, and through the breathtakingly beautiful Banghoek (Scared Corner) Valley, a route which just happens to be at the intersection of some of the best-known Cape Wine Routes. In Franschhoek, you’re spoilt for choice with restaurants, bars, shops and galleries.

My girlfriend and I had an amazing experience with Irmina and Marius, who not only guided us through wonderful landscapes but also made us laugh and shared amazing food with. Would recommend it to anyone who would like to see more of the beauty South Africa has to offer!
