Hermanus Whale Watching & Nature Walks
Whales and whale watching in Hermanus, South Africa is THE place on the planet to see whales up close, as it is the place that the Southern Right whales come to from Antartica to give birth in the relatively warmer waters. One can watch whales breaching or simply lying on the surface of the water just 20m from the shore. As an optional extra, we propose a boat trip to get an even closer look at these majestic giants.
The hike to the 3 dams in the the Fernkloof Reserve is relaxed and lovely. One can swim and jump in to the water in a pristine setting following a small river up a narrow gorge. We will have lunch in a restaurant below the cliffs in a natural cave just next to the ocean. A remarkable restaurant serving very good food.
The seashore along the Hermanus coast is complete with white sandy beaches where one can dig for white mussels but it is also rocky with interesting rock pools with small fish, start fish, colourful sea urchins and other strange sea creatures, where children love to play and watch the tiny ecosystems at their fingertips.
The road back to Cape Town runs along the coast and is one of the most beautiful roads in South Africa. Following a dramatic coast line with cliffs, river outlets and lagoons, we will stop to watch the sun setting across False Bay into the sea.

Tsitsikamma National Park | Storms River Mounth
The Tsitsikamma National Park forms a section of the Garden Route National Park and is situated at the heart of the picturesque tourist region known as the Garden Route, found in the Southern Cape of South Africa.
The Mouth Trail is the most popular walk in the Tsitsikamma and starts at Sandy Bay and takes one along a winding board walk through indigenous forest to the mouth of the Storms River. Here visitors will cross the famous suspension bridge (one of three at the mouth) and see the Storms River Mouth Cave (Khoisan Heritage Site). For the more energetic, the trail continues after the bridge and leads up to the lookout point on the plateau.
The Waterfall Trail comprises the first 3km of the world-renowned Otter Trail. At the end of the 3km stretch along the rugged coastline, the spectacular waterfall, plunging into a deep pool, before flowing into the sea, will enchant you. Take along your bathing costume and a picnic.

This was an incredible trip, weather was perfect, we enjoyed swimming in the beautiful waterfall pools, and we even found a rare orchid flower there 🙂 Marius is very friendly and knowledgeable, he is a great guide. It would be very hard to organise such trip on your own, due to a lot of logistics and lack of knowledge on directions, very happy I joined this experience, 100% recommended!
